1Password 8.12.21 macOS pkg broken

I noticed that today's release of the pkg installer for 1Password 8.12.21 changes the pkg contents slightly. In the renamed component pkg "1Password-component", the postinstall script is missing execute permissions and thus the pkg fails on install. This is from the pkg downloaded from:

https://downloads.1password.com/mac/1Password.pkg

Attached is a screen grab showing the pkg contents of a slightly older version vs today's 8.12.21, showing the change in permissions. Old on top, new on bottom.

I'm sorry that the previously released 1Password for Mac PKG installer failed to install the 1Password app. Our team identified the cause and has now resolved the issue. You should now be able to download and use the latest PKG installer normally to install or update 1Password.

You can download the latest PKG installer from our website here (please discard any previously downloaded installers): Deploy 1Password for Mac and Windows

If you're still unable to install or update 1Password then please let me know and I can help further. Thank you for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue.

Hello @allpurposeben! 👋

Thank you for reporting that the PKG installer for the latest version of 1Password for Mac fails to install the app. I've reproduced the same issue on my end and I've flagged this internally to our development team.

I'll update this thread as soon as I have more information to share. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I also encountered this same issue.  My assessment is only subjective, but it seems to me that 1Password has increasingly become complacent with the testing of the product before it is released.  With all due respect, I would remind AgileBits that it is not the role of the customer to find, document, and report software defects.  Instead, it the responsibility of the company to perform those functions and remediate problems before the product is released.  Of course, no reasonable customer expects perfection - but, AgileBits should in fact hold itself to the highest standards of quality assurance, especially for a product as critically important as a password manager.

Perhaps AgileBits could do a "spotlight and roadmap review" webinar to highlight the existing quality control efforts for the 1Password product and present its plans to enhance those efforts in the future?

@Pleonasm

I’m sorry this issue affected you as well. We do have testing in place for every release, but unfortunately this one slipped through. Our team will be reviewing what happened carefully so we can help prevent similar issues in the future.

I’ve also shared your webinar suggestion with the appropriate team internally, it’s definitely an interesting topic, and I think it could make for a really engaging session!
