1Password and Passage

I and several seniors I help have 1Password account.

One of them got an email that began with:

As communicated on October 16, 2025, Passage by 1Password will be retired on January 16, 2026 and you are required to migrate to a new authentication provider. Until then, Passage will remain available and supported so you have time to plan your migration.

They are all flustered that they are going to have to migrate but I told them that while they have 1Password, they do not have Passages, and therefore they should ignore the email but they won't believe me arguing that why would they get this email if they did have to migrate.

Would some kind soul point whether or not I am correct.  I might add that I did not get an email telling me I would have to migrate.

Many thanks.

Hello @BikerBob38 and @PhilipMilford! 👋

I'm sorry for the confusion! Passage is a separate product from 1Password that is meant for app developers to add passkey support to their websites. If you, or the folks that you support, don't know what Passage is then the email likely doesn't apply to you. You, or they, likely just signed up for the newsletter at some point. The email does not affect your use of 1Password.

If you have any questions, or other feedback, you can reply to the email that you received to reach the Passage team directly.

I have the same question. I am an individual user and I have no idea what this is referring to and the "mitigation guide" appears to directed to IT professionals. 1Password should check up on this and determine who in their organization is sending it out and who it is supposed to be directed at and not do a mass mailing to everyone.

Thank you very much.
I've been using 1Password for at least a decade or more. Family licensed, two users who are very happy with this service.
I was wondering when & where to find time for this message that is now happening to me for the second time. Thanks to you, everything is well resolved: I can enjoy my leisure time!.
