1Password "Browser Support" process keeps opening new processes

I noticed recently that 1Password on Windows 11 keeps opening processes called “1Password browser support”. It acts like a memory leak since it keeps opening more and more until my system gets really bogged down. I can force quit it but after I do it just keeps opening more.

I have quit the main 1Password program but it still keeps opening processes so I guess it might be tied to either the browser extensions or maybe the terminal integration?

+1

I had the exact same issue thrice today on Windows 10, it consumed 7GB of memory at one point, and I had to restart my PC because it was too slow to do anything.

Switched to beta channel for now, it doesn’t seem to have this issue.

Did you switch to beta on the app or the browser extension or both? I checked and I’m on beta on both and I still see this issue.

Only the app, but I was wrong, I noticed it was still happening.

I’m trying another workaround right now by removing and re-adding my browser, Helium which is not officially supported, in the 1Password’s Settings, it looks fine so far.

Same issue here. Can’t even use the computer because of the 1password spam processes.

Glad I am not going crazy, I have the same issue. I thought it was related to Claude Code, but are we all Helium users?  That is more likely the cause then.

Hi @grief_shorty666, @civ2boss, @Hyudryu, and @rb666, I’m sorry for the inconvenience this issue is causing.

I’ve come across a couple of reports of similar behaviour recently, and so far in the cases I’ve seen, it seems as if it’s happening when integration is enabled in the 1Password extension in an unsupported browser and it hasn’t been added to the trusted browsers list.

Just to confirm, have you added any unsupported browsers to the additional browsers list in 1Password? You can find steps for this here: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app

If you’ve done this already, could you try removing and then re-adding any additional browsers to test whether this resolves the issue?

In addition to trying this, I'd like to ask you to create and share a diagnostics report from the 1Password desktop app, so our support team can investigate further: Send a diagnostics report

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to: support@1password.com

With your email please include:

You’ll receive a reply with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can join the dots. Thanks!

Yes this fixed it for me too. I didn’t know the additional browser feature added support for browsers not in the Program Files directory, previously it didn’t. But now that I added it, it seems to have fixed it.

Hi @civ2boss,

Thank you for confirming that! Happy to hear that resolved the issue for you.
