1Password Chrome Extension on Mac has problematic login

When I click on a locked 1Password Chrome Extension on my Mac, it first pops up with a button clicking to unlock. After clicking, a password field appears which I have to click on to start entering my password, then TouchID appears.

How about having TouchID appear the moment I click on the chrome extension button? It becomes frustrating to use having to click multiple times to begin unlocking the vault.

Thank you for reaching out. When you click on the 1Password icon in Chrome, if the desktop app is running and Touch ID is enabled, then you should be prompted to unlock using Touch ID immediately. Can you check to make sure that you have the 1Password for Mac desktop app set to run in the background: 

  1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
  2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Make sure that "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" and "Start at login" are both turned on.


Then, restart your Mac. Once you login to your Mac again, do you still see the same issue when unlocking 1Password in Chrome?

Perhaps this solves it. I don't like having 1Password in the menu bar. If I don't have it in the menubar, it gets wonky as it can't decide if I should manually type in the password or use touchID. I guess I have to leave it on.

Thank you for the feedback. Currently, the menu bar icon is required in order for the 1Password desktop app to run in the background even when the main window is closed. This is so that 1Password is never running and unlocked on your Mac without you being aware of it. 

Without the menu bar icon being visible, the 1Password desktop app will completely close once you close the main window. Since the desktop app handles Touch ID, the browser extension will need to wait for it to open back up before it can present the Touch ID prompt. This is likely why you were seeing the password prompt appear first. 

That being said, I've shared your feedback with our product team internally.
