1Password Firefox extension used to work fine, now does nothing

For approximately a week (about the last update), the 1Password Firefox extension does nothing.
No prompts to fill username or password, and clicking on the 1Password icon in the browser bar seems to have no response. Disabling the extension and enabling it has no change. Same with uninstalling and re-installing.

Please fix this.

There are multiple similar reports on the Mozilla Addon website for the 1Password extension.

Hello folks,

Our developers have fixed an issue where the 1Password browser extension could become unresponsive in Firefox and cause abnormally high CPU usage. Please update to the latest version (8.11.4.27):

Thank you for your patience as we worked to develop and release a fix. If you're still seeing issues after updating then please send an email to support@1Password.com so that our team can investigate further.

Hello everyone,

We're aware of reports from some customers that 1Password in Firefox can become unresponsive or use excessive CPU in certain cases. Our development team is currently investigating and I want to thank everyone who has sent in information so far.

For the time being, the following should help workaround the issue until the next time that you close your browser:

  1. Disable 1Password in Firefox: Disable or remove Add-ons
  2. Open Task Manager (on Windows) or Activity Monitor (on Mac) and force quit the Firefox process. Don't close Firefox normally, the process has to be closed.
  3. Re-open Firefox.
  4. Enable 1Password in Firefox.

We've also confirmed that creating a new Firefox profile appears to get things working in the new profile as well. I'll update this thread as soon as I have more information to share.

For those monitoring this thread, extension version 8.11.2.21 is now out. Not saying this will fix things, but the new version might be something to try if you're still running into this issue.

@egerlach

Thanks for the post! Our team is currently testing a potential fix internally but the fix isn't yet available in any current release of 1Password for Firefox.

Hello everyone,

The latest beta version of 1Password for Firefox fixes an issue where the 1Password browser extension could become unresponsive in Firefox and cause abnormally high CPU usage. If you'd like to get your hands on the fix then you can update to 8.11.4-26 or later: Use 1Password beta releases

The team is working on releasing the fix to the stable version of 1Password for Firefox as soon as possible. If you'd like to stick with the stable version for now, the following should help workaround the issue until the next time that you close your browser:

I'm sorry for the disruption caused by the issue.

Is the beta release safe to use now or should we wait until it has been fully tested?

@GaryH

Thanks for the question! The beta version is safe to use and has been tested but you might run into more bugs with the beta version than with the stable version.

If you'd like to wait for the fix to land in the stable version then that's completely fine, we hope to release the fix as soon as possible.
