1Password for Safari: excessive CPU usage

From time to time the 1Password web extension in Safari drains my MacBook Pro's battery; according to the activity monitor it's then occupying 100% CPU (only one core? don't know). Unfortunately I cannot really tell exactly *when* this happens, but I *think* it's when my Mac goes to sleep, for example when I'm away or close the lid, Safari is still running, and I come back later.

Side effect:

When unlocking 1Password via the menu bar icon, the extension in Firefox is directly unlocked too, but the Safari extension keeps being locked; I manually have to click on the button to unlock it.

This keeps bugging me now for quite some time, and the only workaround I found so far is either deactivate and reactivate the extension in Safari settings or restart Safari.

Deinstalling and reinstalling the application didn't help as far as I could tell.

Has someone else seen this?

I'm using
* 1Password for Mac 8.12.10 (81210036)
* 1Password for Safari 8.12.10.36
* macOS 26.4.1
* MacBook Pro M2

Hi @Thorsten_Heit, thank you for reaching out to report this. Based on your description, it sounds as if you might be running into a couple of known issues, however I'd like to have our support team confirm this.

Could you reproduce the behaviour, and then create some diagnostics reports from both the extension and desktop app:

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to: support@1password.com

With your email please include:

  • A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/1password-for-safari-excessive-cpu-usage/169372
  • Your forum username: Thorsten_Heit

You'll receive a reply with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks!

Hi Thorsten, thank you for opening this discussion. I am also having the same issue. How was this solved? I see the case is marked as solved but there is no explanation on why this is happening and how to fix it.
