Question

1Password for Safari not connecting to 1Password

This is a recent problem.  Finder was locking up on me so I reinstalled the OS to fix it.  Now I have to enter my password every time I try to use the extension in Safari for the first time.  It does work after that but it can sometimes take forever to load.  The extension settings say "Integration status: Connection problem" with a yellow dot.  I assume that means the extension isn't talking to 1Password, which is open.

OS 15.7.5

Safari 26.4

1Password 8.12.12

Extension 8.12.12.44

Hello @rbpeirce! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into an issue where 1Password for Safari isn't connecting to the desktop app. Try this:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
  3. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Click Browser.
  6. Make sure that "Connect with 1Password in the browser" is on.

Then in the browser:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
  3. Turn off "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app".
  4. Turn on "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app".

If that still doesn't work then do you now see a green dot in the browser settings page? Or a different coloured dot and an error message?

Hmm.  I replied that I had already tried these and they didn't work so I tried them again and they still didn't work.  However, I seem to have solved the problem.   There used to be an application called 1Password for Safari.  It was gone so I restored it from Time Machine and fired it up.  I now have a connection with a green dot!
