1Password for Safari not working correctly in macOS 15.6.1 and Safari 18

The title says it all. I see the issue is discussed in other places. Opening a site in a new tab does not fix, restarting Safari does not fix for me. Reinstalling 1Password for Safari doesn't fix. What works is turning the 1Password extension off and on in Safari, but only until Safari is reopened. Is there any fix on the horizon yet for this issue?

I'm sorry that 1Password isn't working correctly in Safari on your Mac. Can you share details of the problem you’re experiencing? Any information you can provide, such as an error message and steps to reproduce the issue, will help me understand what’s going on and work on a solution.

For example, are you unable to fill and save logins? When the issue occurs can you still open the 1Password pop-up from the toolbar? I look forward to hearing from you.

When I open Safari, and occasionally while using, 1Password extension is not functional. It will not fill in logins and passwords, and the window will not open when I click the icon. If I manually go into Safari settings and deselect, then reselect the extension, it works again, temporarily. When not functioning and trying to fill a password/login, the extension uses very high CPU (100-300%!!) until I reset extension in settings. Restarting Safari does not change this behavior, in fact opening Safari again after quitting reproduces the problem. Reinstalling 1Password for Safari doesn't change the behavior. Rebooting my Mac does not fix the problem. The main application still works. The problem began for me, I think with OS update 15.5 and continues with 15.6 and 15.6.1. I have not reinstalled the OS and am reluctant to. Anyway, extension behavior is very annoying and makes its use in Safari mostly nonfunctional.

Thank you for the reply. I'd like to ask a few more questions so that I can better understand what might be causing the issue:

Which version of 1Password for Safari are you currently using?
Did you recently migrate to your current Mac from a previous Mac?
Are you using an Apple Silicon or Intel-based Mac? You can check by clicking on the Apple menu  in the menu bar > About This Mac

FWIW, I have, essentially, the same setup as you (macOS 15.6.1, Safari 18.6, and 1Password for Safari 8.11.40) on a MacBook Pro with M4 chips, and I did not experience problems (so far :-). My instinctive reaction in such a case (in Safari or any other browser) is to switch off all other extensions, restart the browser, and then test again. If it works all right, then switch the other extensions one by one, and test. It can be a long, boring, and tedious process, but it very often reveals a collision with another extension...

I hope this, or other trick, may help...

Hi,

I received a message from you asking for a diagnostic report.

The problem I am having is that when the extension is not working, when I right-click on the extension icon in Safari toolbar, it does not offer a Settings selection (or Lock, Save, Report Issue, Help), only Manage Extension and Customize Toolbar. I can only generate a report when the extension is working, and to get that, I have to uncheck/recheck the extension in Safari settings. What should I do? Generate a report when the extension is working?

I'm sorry that you're unable to generate a diagnostics report. Can you generate a console log instead while the issue is occurring:

Save a console log for 1Password in your browser

When the instructions say to "reproduce the issue you’re having with 1Password in your browser" I'd like you to click on the 1Password icon in the toolbar and then try to fill a login like you normally would so that the console log can capture the errors that occur when this doesn't work.

Attach the console to an email message addressed to support@1password.com
