1Password for Safari's keyboard focus doesn't get set properly for the filling prompt

Version 8.10.46.34 has once again broken initial keyboard focus. Copied from my previous thread the last time this issue cropped up:

In Safari when the list of items to choose from when filling into a form is displayed, the keyboard focus remains in the form element and not on the list.

Previously, you just had to hit the down arrow to select the first item, and thus just hit down + return to fill the item.

Now, you have to hit tab first to focus the list, and then down + return to fill the item.

1Password Version: 8.10.44
Extension Version: 8.10.46.34
OS Version: macOS 15.0
Browser: Safari

Just wanted to pass on thanks to 1Password for keeping track of this issue since, as noted in the release notes for Mac version 8.12.26:

  • In Safari, pressing the down arrow in a field now focuses the first suggestion in the inline menu.

I can confirm that it works as it used to and all is well again!

Hello, @Kepi. Thank you for writing in.

I'm sorry about that problem with 1Password for Safari, which has returned with version 8.10.46.34. I've filed an issue for our development team for further investigation.

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

The recently released 8.10.50.25 indicates:

The inline menu now works correctly when you use the arrow keys to navigate it in Safari. #24063

Except it still doesn't work correctly.

While you can now hit an arrow key to (seemingly) bring focus to the menu, and the first item will highlight, the focus isn't actually set to the menu. You cannot continue to hit the arrow keys to navigate amongst the items in the menu, nor can you hit return to act on the selected item.

You must still hit tab first and then you can use the menu as expected.

@Kepi,

I sincerely apologize for the interruption to your workflow, and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. It appears that this problem is not confined to Safari, as I was able to replicate the issue in Google Chrome as well. We have reported this to our development team for further investigation.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the followup, @1P_Evon!

It's amusing that in my original thread on 'this' bug, I commented how the Safari extension's behaviour didn't match that of Chrome's or Firefox's. I guess now it does; careful what you wish for, right? 😉

Hopefully the issue is fixed for all browsers in a future update soon. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. 🙂

  • The good news is that 8.10.52.25 fixes the above-noted cross browser interaction issue.
  • The bad news is the originally-noted interaction issue remains.

Progress, at least!

@Kepi

I see that same behaviour that you see and I've let our development team know. I'm glad that things are working again in Chrome and I'm sorry for the continued inconvenience in Safari.

Just swinging by to note 8.10.54 (81054022) still has the issue, but am I ever happy the release includes "We've fixed an issue where you couldn't see custom icons in the inline menu."! So nice to see my various custom icons again.

I'm glad that custom icons are working for you again, the latest update does indeed include a fix to an issue where custom icons wouldn't appear in the inline filling menu. 🙂

Drive-by comment that while the release notes for 8.10.58 do point out that some keyboard-related changes were made:

We’ve made improvements to the scroll behaviour in an item list when using keyboard shortcuts.
that for 1Password for Safari 8.10.58.41 the original focus issue of this thread is, sadly, still present.
