1Password Mac v8.10.52 inconsistent with unlocking using Apple Watch

I'm having the same problem described in https://1password.community/discussion/140071/1password-v8-10-4-inconsistent-with-unlocking-using-apple-watch?utm_source=community-search&utm_medium=organic-search&utm_term=apple+watch but since it was closed w/o resolution I can't attached a diagnostic report.

Apple watch works fine for unlocking the Mac and changing system settings. After unsetting, restarting, and resetting the unlock feature in both Mac setting and 1Password it works for a while but then stops. When that happens the 1P > Settings > Security > Unlock > Apple Watch is greyed out (but checked). I can get it to temporarily work again toggling System Settings > Touch ID & Password > Apple Watch.
