1Password macos app automatically locks after 10 seconds

For me, the macOS 1Password app (not the extension in the browser) automatically locks after 10 seconds of being unlocked - even though under the password (to unlock 1Password) it says “1Password locked after 10 minutes of activity”.

I’m running macOS Golden Gate 27.2, and 1Password for Mac 8.12.42.

Even when (after unlocking) I immediately go to 1Password settings to see/change any options, the 1Password app automatically locks - and the settings window disappears.

Fortunately, the 1Password extension in Safari stays open, so I can copy the password from there (for doing things with different macOS apps that require a password).  However, I don’t have access to my Favorites, cannot create a backup .1PUX file quickly enough, and other tasks where the browser extension isn’t appropriate.

Hello @rckingsley, @Michael_Shingledecker, @graeme.ison, and @bmsv! 👋

I’m sorry that 1Password is unexpectedly locking on your devices. Are you using screen sharing and remote access to another device when the issue occurs? Perhaps using an app like Jump Desktop, TeamViewer, or something similar?

If you are then try the following workarounds:

If you’re not using screen sharing, or the workarounds mentioned above don’t help, then please send in a diagnostics report so that our team can investigate further, you can find instructions here.

If you’ve already share a diagnostics report then our support team will get back to you via email as soon as possible.

I’m having the same issue except my app says “1Password locked after 60 minutes of activity.” I just updated to macOS 27.2. Earlier today before the OS update, I was not having this problem.

5 second lockout is very secure but difficult to use 😁

Same here.  what I don’t know is what happened, it was working fine and don’t remember updating nor the app or the os before it started failing

changed the updates channel to see if latest updates would fix the issue, but it’s still there:

Hi @1P_Dave .

Not using screen sharing, but am using Windows App to remote desktop to a Windows 365 machine. I do have ScreenConnect running on that Mac, but it’s not in use as I work locally.

It took me about 10 tried to get to the auto-lock setting in time because it kept locking before I could click it! That does solve it, but is not ideal for what is supposed to be a secure solution.  It is a workaround to make it useable for now, but still needs fixing.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Well, for reasons totally passing my understanding, it is working like it should now.  I didn’t update macOS, I don’t believe that I updated 1Password (in quite a few weeks), so I don’t have a clue as to why it went weird for a while.

My sincere thanks to all of you that provided responses.  I am going to make a copy of this thread so that if it happens again, I can look at what y’all mentioned as a roadmap to fix it.

I have to say that since my initial report I haven’t had the issue reoccur either. I do use screen sharing on occasion but had not done so the day I had this issue. In any event, I do not use Apple Remote Desktop or the Apple Screen Sharing app. I did check the setting for Screen Sharing and the screen sharing type is “Standard.”
