Question

1Password not usable with Kubuntu Plasma (Wayland)

I tried to switch from Password Safe to 1Password because the company account includes a family account.
Under Kubuntu 26.04 Plasma desktop with wayland I cannot signin in 1Password because of a lack when using keyboard input or mouse input. The QR code is useless - half of it is greyed out.
Is anybody else using 1Password with Kubuntu?
After reboot the application crashed.
Is it working under Gnome or other desktop environments?

Greetings

Hi @redmilk, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble getting 1Password working on Kubuntu with KDE Plasma.

As far as I know, it should work on this setup. I have a few quick questions to help us understand what's going on, so we can point you in the right direction:

  • What exactly happens when you try to sign in? For example, are the text fields not responding to typing, are clicks not registering, or something else?

  • The QR code being half greyed out - does this look like it's failing to load properly, a graphical glitch, or something else?

  • The crash after reboot - do you receive an error message when this happens, and if so, what does it say?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I’m using 1Password in Fedora 44 and used it in Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed and EndeavourOS. Every time I use KDE Plasma and didn’t have issues like this. No idea what could be the issue here. 🤔

Is anybody else using 1Password with Kubuntu?

Yes.

Is it working under Gnome or other desktop environments?

Yes, though…

I cannot signin in 1Password because of a lack when using keyboard input or mouse input.

I am struggling to understand the problem which you are trying to report. Can you express this in terms of what you did, what happened when you did it, and how this differs from what you want or expect? A picture can often help.

It would also help if you identified how you installed the software and what version you are running.

Hi,

sorry für replying late.

Since I know now that Kubuntu with 1Password is valid combination I will try on another machine. I used both the last stable version from homepage and from Kubuntu 26.04, the problem looked like a rendering problem and a performance problem.

The test with the other machine will take some time, I'll will post again.

Thx.

No apology needed. We’re not on a schedule.

Software on Ubuntu platforms can come in packages from the main repositories, PPAs, third party repositories (such as 1Password’s), or snaps from the Snap store (including 1Password), or Flatpaks from Flathub (including 1Password about which 1Password may be confused).
While software can be obtained and install in other ways, I have never heard of and can find no reference to a source named “homepage” and don’t know what “from Kubuntu 26.04” means.

the problem looked like a rendering problem and a performance problem.

How does that look?

Capturing screen shots and even video on modern Linux desktop platforms is very easy these days.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration, i.e. 1password --disable-gpu?

Hi @redmilk, thanks for getting back to us! We'll look forward to hearing what you find when you test on another device.

If the issue persists, it would help us to know which installation method you used for 1Password, along with any screenshots showing what you're experiencing.

If you'd rather not share those on a public forum, feel free to email them to support@1password.com. Include a link to this thread and your forum username so we can connect the dots.
