Question

1Password now fills first, ahead of Passwords, even with switch disabled

In Safari 26.6.2 for macOS 26.6.2 using 1Password browser extension version 8.12.34.34:

New behavior. 1Password aggressively tries to be the first password manager to offer an autofill value in form fields. I often use Passwords for logins, and for all passkeys. This is disruptive.

This was not the case two days ago. I checked, and a setting that is either new or I was unaware of, “Make 1Password the default password manager in this browser,” was enabled. I disabled it. This made no change. I quit 1Password and Safari and relaunched both. Same behavior. I’m nearing disabling the integrated plug-in due to this new (to me) behavior. Ideas?

Hello @glennfleishman! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. The “Make 1Password the default password manager in this browser” setting has been there for years and isn’t new.

We recently rolled out support for macOS AutoFill and you might be seeing a change in behaviour due to that: Use 1Password to sign in to apps and websites on your Mac

Can you share a screenshot of the 1Password prompt that you see so that I can advise further?

I appreciate the option, but, wow, some user education would have been helpful or an email or prompt to explain this. It’s been incredibly irritating.

@glennfleishman

I’m sorry for the confusion. Just to clarify: are you still seeing the issue? If you are then can you share a screenshot of the prompt itself where you see 1Password being offered ahead of Apple Passwords?
