Question

1Password on Safari keeps asking for my full sign in (secret key, etc.).

Hi, Folks- I apologize if this is already in a thread somewhere but I couldn't find it. Every time I try to authenticate 1Password in Safari it request my whole sign in- including secret key which is annoying. It works fine on Firefox and Chrome, only asking for my password. Any fixes for this? Thanks!

Hello @ebobinsky! 👋

I'm sorry that you're being repeatedly prompted for your account information when using 1Password in Safari. So that I can better understand the situation can you tell me the following:

  1. Do you regularly clear Safari's history/cache?
  2. What is the following setting configured to: Safari > Settings > General > "Remove history items".

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello @1P_Dave

  1. I clear the cache and history maybe every week or so (I normally use Firefox, with which 1P is working fine)
  2. 'Remove history items' is set to "after one day"

I also have "hide IP address" set to on, in case it's relevent.

Thanks.

@ebobinsky

Thanks for the reply. Based on what you've said, you're seeing expected behaviour in the Safari web browser, Safari web extensions (of which 1Password for Safari is one) store configuration data in the same bucket that Safari clears when you choose to clear history/cache. Clearing Safari's history/cache will reset 1Password for Safari's preferences.

You won't see the same behaviour in other browsers like Firefox and Chrome since they don't store extension data in the same bucket that gets cleared when you clear history.

If you set "Remove history items" to longer than one day and avoid clearing Safari's history/cache manually then do you still see the same issue when you do that?

Thanks @1P_Dave, that seems to work. I have to clear the cache every so often for other reasons, so I'll just still to Firefox and Chrome. I appreciate the help! -EB
