I'm only wondering and interested about the reasons, because the old 1PW 7 is also available via Appstore!? Does 1PW8 contain some functionalities which could not be offered via Appstore version due to Appstore restrictions?
Installed Apps via Appstore are easier to update via central place and you can be sure to have a safe and verified version.

I wanted to take a moment to respond to this specifically. macOS features a very capable security technology called Gatekeeper that will only allow you to install trustworthy apps whose digital signature comes from a registered developer and is notarized by Apple. Unless you deliberately disable/bypass this security feature, you'll only be able to install 1Password 8 from our website if macOS confirms a valid digital signature.
