Account Password -- long passphrase and mobile devices

I have always used a long passphrase (random dictionary words) for my master password. It works very well on my computer. I can type it rapidly and I don’t even have to think of the phrase because of the muscle memory. Entering my account passphrase on my phone is another story.

I’m curious if others have this problem and how you cope.

Hello @Steve94917! 👋

Thanks for asking the question! I recommend that you enable one of the more convenient unlock options for 1Password on your mobile device like face/fingerprint unlock:

This allows you to avoid having to enter your long account password each time that you use the 1Password app. You can even set your computer to prompt you for your account password more frequently (so that you don’t forget it) while having 1Password on your mobile device rely more on biometric unlock: Manage your unlock and auto-lock settings in 1Password

I hope that helps.

If biometric unlock is unacceptable due to the risk of involuntary use, as it should be for substantially privacy-conscious folks in many parts of the world, then an imperfect but good option is to use the voice input feature of a private keyboard such as FUTO.
This will work well with a passphrase as long as you can speak without fear of being overheard or recorded. You might even want the actual passphrase to not be correctly input via voice so that a minor correction or two are needed, such as by speaking some different words, or using different case or characters.

While I use FUTO and the voice input, I still type my passphrase. The repetition helps decrease the effort.
