Add Login via Browser Extension does not default Website value

When 1P fails to be triggered by a webpage (very often for old, badly formatted websites) we are forced to manually generate a password and 1P entry.

When using the Browser extension and New Item, the website value in the new item is blank, and does not populate with the URL of the website you are currently on.

This is a problem, because the clipboard usually contains the password you have just generated via Extension icon | Password Generator. Then you notice the website is missing, so you copy the URL, now you have lost password you have just generated.

Why can you not manually trigger 1P to recognise the U/M & p/W fields on the page? Why does it fail so badly when trying to manually make up for this?

Thanks for the question! You can manually save a login for a website by following these steps:

Right-click on the page in question.
Click 1Password - Password Manager > Save > Login.

1Password will attempt to pick up any field information on the page and will pre-fill the website address. Let me know if this doesn't work for you.

Thanks Dave. That helps to save it with the URL, but it does not create a password.

When you are faced with creating an account (or forced p/w update) and 1P is not responsive at all, what are the steps to create a new p/w and save a new set of details into 1P.

The process I mentioned creates a p/w but does not save the website URL. The process you mentioned saves the URL but does not create a p/w.

Thanks for the reply and for those additional details. Try these alternate steps:

Navigate to the webpage in question.
Click on the 1Password icon in the menu bar.
Click Key button to open the password generator.
Configure a password and then click Autofill.

You should then be prompted to save a new login that includes both the generated password and the URL. If that doesn't work then it means that 1Password isn't seeing the password field on the page then you'll need to copy and paste your password into the page and then use the steps in my previous reply to save the login item.

That being said, our team can update the password recipe for most webpages with issues so that the password is filled and saved correctly in the future. Are you able to share the website address of the page that isn't working?
