Amazon Fire HD Max 11

I have had two older Amazon Fire devices that I was able to install Google Playstore on and then subsequently install 1Password. The lastest is the HD 10 Plus (11th generation), it is running 1Password 8.12.2 (which I assume is somewhat dated ) which as far as I can tell is fully in sync with 8.12.12 that are running on my Pixel phone and Windows laptop in terms of user-ids, passwords and notes for all of the vaults that I have created.

When I open Google Playstore on the Max 11 and search for 1Password, it finds it but includes a message that "This app won't work on your device". This Interestingly enough there are a whole host of other password managers that appear to work including Bitwarden and Keeper. I was able to install Bitwarden (which I would obviously rather not use) so it isn't a case of Playstore not running. I was also able to use Playstore to install MIcrosoft Excel.

Note: The Bitwarden and Microsoft Excel apps are not part of the Amazon app store, so its not like I made a mistake.

I don't understand why 1Password (and LastPass) are exceptions. It's almost like Playstore honors a not supported flag set by the owner of the app. If this is the case is there anyway this flag can be taken off?

Any suggestions?

Thank you for reaching out! The current version of 1Password for Android requires 1Password 8 requires Android 12 or later. It looks like the Amazon Fire HD 11 runs Fire OS 8, which appears to be based on Android 11 and isn't a supported operating system.

As a security-focused company, we strongly recommend using devices that are running a currently supported operating system along with the latest 1Password updates to ensure your data stays protected.

I realize this isn't the answer you were hoping for, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience. In the meantime, you may be able to access your account on your Amazon device through the web app by signing in at 1Password.com using your browser.

Thank you for your reply and your suggestion about using the browser version of 1Password. That will probably be a better option then using Bitwarden.

However, I believe that using an older version of 1Password, may be a more functional solution. I can see 1Password version 8.12.2 on the APKMirror site that is reported as working on Android 9. APKMirror also has versions 8.12.4, 8.12.6, and 8.12.10. Unfortunately, these later versions also require Android 12. I am tempted to try to install 8.12.2 to see if it works.

I would advise against using any unofficial versions of 1Password. Since those builds aren’t verified by us, there’s no way to be certain what changes may have been made or whether your information would remain secure.

Thank you for your reply. I had not considered the implication that the 8.12.2 version of 1Password stored on APKMirror might not be the official version.

I tried using the 1Password website as you suggested and frankly it isn't really close in terms of functionality. Signing on is difficult and requires the presence of either a second device or having my secret key handy (I keep copies in my desk drawer and with my living trust documents. I don't knowingly store it on any device). Once you sign on, it will enable you to open a webpage but you then need to manually copy and paste in your user-id and password for that site. I have not tried passkey support but doubt that this works.

Personally, I think the best solution (for me) would be to have the ability to download 8.12.2 from a 1Password archive. Alternatively, to be able to get as secure hash of the installation file that I could use to verify the file on APKMirror.

I'm sorry that the 1Password website doesn't fit your needs, you're correct that it doesn't include all of features of the 1Password app.

1Password for Android is only distributed through the Google Play Store, and we don’t offer APK downloads. We’re not able to support installations from unofficial APK sources.
