Archived items appear in search

Hello all! I noticed that in 1Password when I search I see items that I have archived but there is no UI element telling me they are archived which confused me as I think to myself "I don't use that login anymore..." the only way I can tell is if I click the three dots menu the option to archive will be missing and instead it will say restore.

I do like being able to search archived items but I wish this was a filter I could control AND if the results are going to appear at all the item should reflect that it's in an archived state. Just my two cents :)

Hello @wintech147! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. The search field at the top of the 1Password for Mac desktop app doesn't include archived items. Can you check the following:

  1. Search for something using the search field at the top of the desktop app.
  2. Click on an item in the search results that you believe is currently archived.
  3. Click on the "More options" button (it looks like three dots) in the top right corner of the item.
  4. In the menu that appears, do you see Restore item or do you see Archive?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Dave!

Yes when I search for items I see results that I know I archived and when clicking the three dots I see restore for the items I know to be archived. To confirm I click a search result item I know is NOT archived and I see the option to archive (not restore).

If the search results are not supposed to include archived items then I’m even more confused as to why I’m seeing them lol :)

Thank you!

@wintech147

Just to confirm, are you searching using the search field at the top of the app? Or are you using the find tool at the top of the item list after selecting the Archive in the sidebar:

If you are using the search field at the top of the app then can you send a screenshot of what you see (showing that the item is in the archive) to support+forum@1Password.comalong with a link to this thread so that the team and I can investigate further. Make sure that nothing sensitive is visible in the screenshot.

After emailing in, you'll receive a reply from BitBot, our friendly robot assistant with a Support ID that looks something like [#ABC-12345-678]. Post that here, and I'll be able to locate your message. 🙂

Yes I am using the search bar at the very top of the app. I've sent the screenshots to the email address you shared. Just waiting on the bot to reply back with a ticket number :)

I have experienced the same, both in current release and now in 1Password for Mac 8.10.54 (81054013) BETA. It doesn't happen always, but is intermittent. Can't figure out a pattern yet.

I'll reach out to support if I see it again, but it seems to be a bug.

Thanks for the plus 1 @tobyx. I also see it happen on my iPhone and laptop. Very odd behavior.

@wintech147 Are they showing up for you under "Other Suggestions" in search?

November 17, 2024

@cheshirecat correct it appears under “other suggestions. Which is why I thought it was by design but support is saying they shouldn’t be appearing at all. And funny enough if I search in the browser extension they in fact do not appear. It’s just in the desktop and mobile apps.

@1P_Dave Since I'm seeing the exact same thing, I opened a support ticket and sent proof of 1Password showing all my Twitter/X accounts (finally gotten off of that platform) in search even though they are archived.

My ticket number is UWQ-66195-197. Thanks :D
