Attaching documents to Secure Note in version 8

Let me start by saying: "Yes, it is possible!"

I decided to make this post because the 1Password agents have mislead me on this for a long time. From what I can find, this is possible at least since early 2022. Whenever I asked about this in forum posts, I was told that this is no longer possible. I have to create a document and link that to a secure note. This alone made me stay away from 1Password 8.

The other day I gave 1Password 8 another try and accidentally discovered that in fact you can attach document to secure notes directly in the desktop application. It will say "unsupported attachment" when looking at the note via the browser but the document is there, which is all I needed.
Furthermore is you have 2 or more devices, the note and the attached document will sync across as expected.

This is great news, I would have switched years ago if I was made aware of this, instead of the insistent "this is not possible" answers. I hope this will be useful information for others trying to figure out if this function is still working or not.

You can indeed use 1Password 8 to attach a file to a Secure Note by following these steps:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password 8.
  2. Click on your Secure Note and then click Edit.
  3. Click + add more.
  4. Click Attach a File.
  5. Choose your file and then save the item.

After looking at my own past posts I feel like what I remembered was a lot earlier. It wasn't a reply to my own post, it was someone else's that I read at the time. Unfortunately I did not save a link to the post at the time. Of course now that I realized I got the timeline wrong I started to question if there was more that I don't recall correctly.

I did find my post from 2021 asking about "drag and drop" and "multiple file selection" when adding attachments to Secure notes in the desktop application. I asked about this 2+ years ago and I still see no change on either of them. I would imagine this is not that difficult to implement since you had this working on the 1Password 7 version. Is there any hope these QoL features will be implemented in the near future?
