Auto submit causes error on my.ny.gov

Can confirm universal sign in (USI) “feature” completely breaks access to all New York State online services. Looks to the user like a timeout issue after credentials are “entered” by USI. Literally spent DAYS troubleshooting and arguing with state website support services. Because I could not log in, I missed my estimated tax payment deadline this quarter. (Are you going to pick up my penalty fees, 1Password?) Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity all could not come up with any reason why this problem was occurring on ANY of these NY state services sites. On a whim I decided to manually enter my credentials. And what do you know! I got in, without an issue.

As suggested earlier in this thread, it’s clearly time to do a rollback (as bad as that can be), pull all aspects of USI from the “current” release, and then move forward without it until 1Password realizes this kind of alpha testing of code is appropriate for neither business nor home users.

This is probably the worst utility software “breakage” I’ve seen in the last decade. Completely blocking access to government services and making it look like the state web site is the culprit (timeout errors presented to users) is beyond absurd.

    Hello @brianglett! 👋

I’m sorry that you were unable to sign in to New York State online services until you manually copied and pasted your password into the website. Can you confirm that you were signing into a website that included the following domain: my.ny.gov

Let me know if the website address was different.

I suspect that you ran into an issue with autosubmit, which is a feature that is part of both the new sign in experience and the classic sign-in experience. Can you check to see if turning off autosubmit prevents the issue from occurring:

    1. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser’s toolbar.
    2. Find and select the item in question.
    3. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the item.
    4. Click Don’t sign in automatically.

Let me know if you continue to see the issue after trying these steps.

    Domains attempted were:

    • my.ny.gov
    • tax.ny.gov
    • dmv.ny.gov

Never had an issue using 1Passwords to log into these domains before USI was implemented.

As I stated in my previous post, I turned off USI. So please clarify the directions again. I suspect you want USI on, Dave, but will await your confirmation of such. Otherwise, two variables are being tested at once (no USI, no autosubmit), making any results not meaningful from a problem management perspective.

Also please clarify what you mean by “Find and select the item in question.” Are you referring to my ny.gov credentials in 1Password? Am I supposed to go to each of the aforementioned domain addresses on which the issue occurred? Something else?

Also the error message received when using USI was: “This site can’t be reached The connection was reset. Try: Checking the connection Checking the proxy and the firewall Running Windows Network Diagnostics ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" What is USI doing that causes its failure to look and behave like a pure networking issue, Dave? There are ZERO true network issues, as the manual bypass of any 1Password functionality showed.
