Autofill intermittently stops working in macOS Safari

Hello,

1Password autofill randomly stops working in Safari 18.4 (macOS 15.4). I see the 1Password contextual menu (see screenshot of Etsy login dialog) but clicking it does not open my applicable login items like it should. When 1Password is still locked and I click the icon to unlock it, nothing happens. I can open the 1Password browser extension to see my logins from Safari's toolbar, but while it does show me the applicable logins for the page I'm on, clicking the Autofill button does nothing.

This is an intermittent problem that I can sometimes fix just by opening the website in a new browser window or a new tab. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried the workaround of toggling the extension's 1Password integration setting but that doesn't solve anything. (I should add that the browser extension does show that the extension is connected with 1Password.)

Help?

Hello folks,

We’re sorry about the issues that you’ve reported when using 1Password in Safari. We’re happy to share that the latest update to macOS and iOS includes improvements to Safari that resolve a bug where 1Password's suggestion menu would stop working and autofill will stop filling in certain situations.

We also recommend taking the time to make sure that you’re using the latest version of 1Password for Safari.

Thank you for your patience as we worked with our partners at Apple to resolve the issue. If you're still seeing the issue then please send an email to support@1Password.com so that the team can help further.

Exact same problem here. Sometimes restarting Safari helps.  Seems like it broke after the Sequoia 15.4 update.

Hello @fongd and @MrUserGuy! 👋

I'm sorry that AutoFill stops responding in Safari on your Mac. This is an issue that the team and I have been able to reproduce and a bug report has been filed with our development team to get this fixed.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

Is there any way to monitor the progress of this issue? It’s quite frustrating and significantly disrupts the workflow.

This.

Been now quite some time and having the bugged extension is starting to become more than a nuisance.

Same issue it's been ongoing for months.  Restarting Safari resets the function but its temporary.

Same issue for me.

No worries - just wanted to indicate it is still an issue.

Still experiencing this issue in 18.5, most of the time I have to resort to universal autofill but that's not how it should be. To be honest, this is an issue that keeps reappearing over and over since Safari profiles were introduced.

I am not sure if it's related to the profiles functionality per se, but we need a permanent fix as it's not just an annoying thing anymore, but a proper disruption of workflows.

@grovolis21

Totally agree. Glad I am not the only one who sees a relation to the profiles feature. Since the launch I had windows which were running a different profile where 1Password simply didn't work while on the window right next to it, it worked fine. I still experience this sometimes. I simply don't want to switch and also don't know a good alternative which allows our SMB to share vaults etc like in 1Password. This needs to be fixes ASAP.

Yeah that's what I encounter sometimes too (not as often as in the past, though). I guess not many people use Safari (and profiles specifically) for them to dedicate resources to solving this. It might be on Apple too, I can't rule it out.

It's a bit sad to see Apple apps being second class citizens almost since 1Password 8. Other password managers are catching up, it won't be long before there is some serious competition.

Still an extremely frustrating issue.
