Question

Automatic Unlock is kinda broken.

💻 System Setup

  • Windows 11 Pro x64, 25H2 (26200.6725)
  • 1Password installed via MSIX bundle (v8.11.14.20 BETA)
  • Security Settings: Unlock using Windows Hello. Unlock when device unlocks.

🪳 Problems

  • When I unlock the Windows PC, the above setting is supposed to unlock 1P too. But it doesn't.
  • When I start-up my Windows PC and login, 1P isn't automatically unlocked. It doesn't even give me Windows Hello unlock option. It says "You need to enter your account password before you can use Windows Hello."
  • After unlocking by entering the password, if I manually lock 1P, then it does give me Windows Hello option to unlock.
  • But if I put the PC to sleep and then wake it up & unlock, 1P doesn't unlock and doesn't give me Windows Hello option. Instead it asks me to enter the full password again!

Things are so confusing and broken here! "Unlock with device" also doesn't work.

Say 1Password app is unlocked. I lock it, and then lock Windows (Win + L). Then I unlock Windows, but 1Password stays locked. And Windows Hello prompt also doesn't appear automatically!!

Ok, I disabled "Unlock with device" and enabled "Use TPM". Now 1P app is behaving as expected.

The "Unlock with device" flow is very confusing and feels like regression. Hope 1P team can re-work it.

Hi @1Passworder1! Thanks for sharing your feedback on this. I'd be happy to pass your comments along to the team.

Just to confirm, is 1Password for Windows now locking and unlocking as expected for you?

Hi. Yes, the "Use TPM" flow is locking and unlocking as expected.

The "Unlock with device" flow is confusing and doesn't behave the way one would expected from the string "Unlock with device".

So I'm sticking with TPM flow.
