Bug: Unlock prompt at startup when "show the main window" is chosen

I'm sorry that you're seeing an unexpected Touch ID prompt for 1Password when you start your Mac. While we do have an open issue for the 1Password app icon appearing in the Dock at startup, I'm not able to reproduce the Touch ID prompt also appearing. Even when "Show the main window" is selected for the menu bar icon.

Can you check to make sure that you don't have 1Password added to your login items? 1Password launches at startup using another method and adding the app to your login items can cause issues:

1. Click on the  in the menu bar.
2. Click System Settings.
3. Click General.
4. Click Login Items.
5. Make sure that 1Password isn't listed under "Open at Login". If it is listed then remove it.
6. If you have any browsers listed here then remove them as well since they can trigger the 1Password browser extension to unlock when they launch.

Then restart your Mac but make sure that "Reopen windows when logging back in" is turned off.

It seems I have not identified the correct origin of the behavior. After you not being able to reproduce it, I made sure it is not in Login Items. Then I continued the search.

It seems happening when I use the „reopen all windows when logging back in“ option from macOS and then forget to close the 1Password app on shutdown (no dot below the icon in the dock). I don’t know if there’s a way to not have the unlock prompt in this specific instance, but I doubt it, since it maybe makes the prompt behavior less consistent and more prone to errors.

But I am having the issue where on startup the dot below 1Password appears (I keep 1Password in the dock) and it also shows the app menu in the menu bar. But nothing more (no interruption). So it is not a major disturbance.

Because both things happen after login I have conflated both and made the wrong conclusion. Thanks for checking my report and helping figuring out the (hopeful) correct cause.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you're running into expected behaviour, when the "Reopen windows when logging back in" option is turned on and the 1Password app is open when restarting you'll see the main window appear and be prompted to unlock after macOS boots up.

I recommend making sure that "Reopen windows when logging back in" is unchecked.

This is a indeed a known issue and a fix is already available in the beta version of 1Password for Mac. The team is hoping to include the fix in an update to the stable version as soon as possible. 🙂

I hope that you're doing well! I wanted to let you know that our developers have released a fix for the issue where the dot would appear under 1Password's icon in the Dock at startup in the latest version of 1Password, update to version 8.10.34:

How to keep 1Password up to date

After updating please restart your Mac (and make sure that "Reopen windows when logging back in" is turned off"). If you still see the issue then please let me know.

I have noticed that 8.10.34 was released and installed via auto-update. It does fix the dot issue. With that, I think this thread can be closed.
