Question

Buggy re-authorizations and how to automatically keep client and extension in sync

One of our users has been using 1password for years, with the same computer, same user logged in with the same Single Sign-On Entra credentials, same browser - this morning 1Password browser extension required re-authorization.

The tray icon was already unlocked the system tray, so in theory the browser shouldn't have needed a reauthorization. After re-authorizing the client, that worked for a bit but then the user reported more 1password auto-fill issues, so I had them reboot. After rebooting the workstation, the same out-of-sync issue persisted, however this time the browser extension did not require re-authorization.

What triggers a browser re-authorization? The client and the browser extension were on different versions, could that have caused the issue? If so, is there any way the 1password MSI installer could optionally auto-update the latest browser extension if it is already installed, perhaps by command line parameters to the MSI installer?

I can auto-deploy 1password installs and updates via Intune and/or via our third-party patching tool, if the installer could keep the extension up to date it would be much easier to keep everything in sync.

1Password Version: 8.10.50
Extension Version: 8.10.56.28
OS Version: Windows 10
Browser: Microsoft Edge
