Can I disable password suggestions?

When I'm registering on a new site, and I'm prompted for a password, is there a way to stop 1Password from suggesting one?

I'm sorry for the delay in replying. There isn't a way to turn off password suggestions without also turning off suggestions of existing login credentials. Once you start typing, you'll see the "Save in 1Password" option appear in the menu if you'd like to enter and save your own created password:

That being said, while I can't make any promises, I've shared your request for an option to turn off suggested passwords in the inline menu with our product team for future consideration.

Hello @Ward! 👋

Thank you for reaching out! Can you tell me a little more about why you'd like to turn off password suggestions? Using 1Password to generate strong and unique passwords for all of your accounts is core functionality so I'm curious to hear if you're generating passwords some other way or if the password suggestions are getting in the way.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sorry to piggy back, but I would also like to know how to disable suggestions, because they pop up first in the list on a website I actually have a pw saved in 1password.

This is in Chrome, using the chrome extension. I can only choose from the suggestion inside the pw field. Instead, 1pw should choose the correct saved pw. I have to go to the pinned button, choose the other pw, and then hit autofill.

Turning off "suggest new pw" would solve this. (Also, I like to create my own passphrases that I can remember when I'm not at work, I know how to create a secure password I can remember. I'm not a child).

I've gone through all help channels, tutorials and instructions, and the choice "Fill anywhere on this website" is broken, not working.

What I want (the next choice in the list):

Hi @DieselOx thanks for reaching out.

I understand that 1Password is offering to generate a new password in a field where you're expecting to be able to fill a password that you already have saved.

The reason you're seeing this is because something about how the site is built is causing the 1Password browser extension to detect the field as a new password field that would appear on an account creation page, or when changing your password in your security settings.

Can you send us an email at support@1password.com and use the following steps to gather the page details where you're running into this issue, so we can submit a report to our developers?

  1. On the page exhibiting the behaviour, click the problematic field so the field is focused.
  2. Right-click the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar.
  3. Click **Help** and choose **Collect Page Structure**.
  4. 1Password will save a .json file to your "Downloads" folder.
  5. Attach the downloaded .json file to your message.

Thanks. Email sent, support ID number received. Hesitant to post it here, would not want anyone trying to use it to glean info/spoof me by email or something. Is there a way to send it to you by PM?

I did repeat all the above, with more detail, so support should be able to help anyway.

Best,

DO

Our support team will be able to help further without you posting the Support ID on the forum if you don't wish to do so. If you don't receive a reply then let me know.
