Can I use Touch ID on a Mac desktop

I have a MAC desktop running macos 12.6.3. I also have a plugged in touch pad. Is there any way I can use thew touch pad for logging in?

Thank you for the question! By "touch pad" do you mean that you have a Magic Trackpad connected to your Mac? Something like this: Magic Trackpad - White Multi-Touch Surface - Apple (CA)

If that's the Trackpad that you have then it doesn't look to include a Touch ID sensor which means you won't be able to use it with Touch ID. Newer Macs that include an Apple Silicon M1 or M2 chip can use the Magic Keyboard's Touch ID sensor: Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for Mac models with Apple silicon - US English - Apple (CA)
