Question

Can only create a new identity in android app

I've downloaded a new app, First Alert by Resideo. I'm creating a new account through the app. There isn't an option to create it on their website. When I get to the password field, my saved Identities show up. Since I don't want to use those, but instead want to create a new login, I tap "Open 1Password". 1pass opens and it shows "Suggestions for Resideo.com", which are only my saved identities. There is a +New Item button at the bottom of the list, but when I click it I'm only given the option to create a new identity. How can I create a new login instead? I've had this happen in other apps before, but when it happens I can usually create/save a login through the website.

I'm on a OnePlus 12, Android version 16.

Hi @RogueScholar1, welcome to the Community!

This sounds like it might be a known issue where identity items are suggested for password fields when identity form fields appear on the same page as login fields.

To help confirm, could you let me know whether there are any identity fields (such as name, address, or phone number) visible on the same page as the password field?

Hi, yes, there are identity fields on the page as well.

Hi @RogueScholar1, thanks for your reply. This confirms that you're running into the known issue I mentioned, and I've added your report to the internal tracker for the issue. I'm sorry for the disruption caused.

Our developers are currently investigating, and while I'm not yet able to provide a timeline for a fix, you can keep an eye on our release notes page for news: 1Password Releases

If you have any further questions or concerns, let me know!

Hi! I'm a developer at 1Password, I work on the Android app.

The issue you've identified is known and is very annoying.

We have a fix in the next release (May 2026) that will always prioritize creating new Logins instead of Identities when creating a new item from the autofill flow. We're also looking into how we can offer user's more flexibility when creating items from the autofill flow instead of assuming what a user's intentions are based on context clues.

In the meantime, the only work around is to open the 1Password app from your home screen or your app drawer and create a new login manually.  But be on the lookout for that update in May if, like me, you are eager to see this bug fixed.
