Question

Can't use 1Password

I just tried to update my password on a site. Now I am blocked from the site. The Windows Chrome version uses a Windows passkey, but I couldn’t change the password on the Android app. I can log into the Windows Chrome site, but I have to call tomorrow and resolve Android phone login. This really sucks. I just moved from Google Password Manager because that sucked, and so for 1Password sucks worse. The whole help area is pitched to corporations and not individual users.

Replying to myself: sorry about the bad attitude. I deleted all the login items for the website I was talking about, and went through the process of creating a new password myself after I confirmed the username was what I thought. I then created a new login item in 1Password, and used it to login using Chrome on a desktop. Before I could use 1Password to log in, I had add the URL of the site to the 1Password login item myself. It turns out that I had a passkey in Windows for this site, and voila once I logged in by hand, I could then log in with the passkey! I don’t need 1Password at all for this site now. I think there was another passkey in the items I deleted, so the Windows passkey works fine when it was the only one available. 1Password worked OK on another Windows computer to open the site, and after I opened the site on Android by hand, it offered me a PIN login, which I had been using. Again no 1Password needed.

Hello @Clarea8! 👋

Welcome to the 1Password community! I’m sorry that you’re running into issues while getting started with 1Password. If you haven’t already then I recommend following our steps to import items from Google Password Manager:

Once all of your passwords are in 1Password, you can turn off the built-in password manager: Turn off the built-in password manager in your browser

Next, make sure that you install 1Password in the browser on your Windows PC and setup autofill for 1Password on your Android phone:

Now, the next time that you need to change a password on a website, you can follow the steps in this guide: Use the password generator to change and strengthen your passwords

Let me know how that goes and if you run into any issues.
