cant add 1password to android phone

I had to factory reset my Galaxy phone. I installed 1password. It wants to scan a QR code. I used my Samsung Tablet to generate the QR code, i scan it with my phone, i got an error that there are no passkeys available on this device (duh, its factory reset)

I got the same issue when scanning the QR code on the emergency kit.

How do I get around this?

Thanks

Thank you for that screenshot, I'm sorry that the steps didn't work for you. Have you enabled two-factor authentication for your 1Password account and, if you have, are you only using a hardware security key as a second factor?

If that answer is yes then I suspect that you might be running into a known issue that affects users who authenticate 1Password for Android using a security key. Can you try adding an authenticator app as an additional factor and then use that to authenticate your account: Set up two-factor authentication

Let me know if you're able to workaround the issue using an authenticator app. If you're not using a hardware security key to authenticate your account then let me know.

Hello @bnelsontech! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into trouble when adding 1Password to your Galaxy phone. Can you confirm that you're following these steps:

  1. Make sure that you're using 1Password 8 on both devices: Find the version numbers for 1Password and your operating system
  2. On your Samsung tablet, open and unlock the 1Password Android app (not the website).
  3. Tap the icon for your account or collection at the top right and choose Set Up Another Device.
  4. You should see a QR code appear on your screen.
  5. On your Galaxy phone, use the 1Password app (not the Camera app) to scan the QR code displayed on your tablet.

If that doesn't work then can you post a screenshot of the "no passkeys available on this device" error message that you see? Make sure that no sensitive information is visible in the screenshot. And can you tell me if you're using a 1Password account that has an account password/Secret Key, or a 1Password account that unlocks using a workplace identity provider or passkey?

Dave, You're a genius, that did work.  Can we please get that fixed though, i would prefer to use security keys instead.  TY for your assistance.

I'm glad that using an authenticator app allowed you to workaround the issue! Our developers are investigating the security key bug on Android and hopefully it will be fixed in a future update soon. I've added your report to our internal work item for the issue.
