Category Useage

I have separate items for everything and organize items with tags. Categories are something I ignore completely, because they collect the form an item was created with, not what meaning I gave the items.

If I search for an item, I type in some part of the item title or whatever I remember from that item. If I don't remember any part, or if I am going to manage items, I browse the items tag hierarchy.

Autofilling is something I exclusively use the browser plugin for. I never use the "open & fill" function from within the desktop app. Instead, I use the browser favorites function as starting point for any kind of website access. In case a website asks for login, I use the data the browser plugin automatically offers for autofill. No search necessary. Just a click on the 1Password credential offer.

I don't remember the last time when I entered my credit card info. In my regular shops, I saved the credit card info within the shops, so I'm not asked for the number. In occasionally visited shops, I use Paypal.

If I should enter some credit card info, and the browser plugin doesn't offer autofill the credit card field on its own, I would open the browser plugin while already being on the website, change to the "all objects" view" and enter "credit" into the search field to find the credit card item. Then I drag the credit card number field from the browser plugin page and drop it on the website input field. That's not too inconvenient.

I personally do the same as you're currently doing. So I have:

1. A Login item for my account with a major retailer.
2. A Credit Card item for the credit card that I've opened through the retailer.
3. A Login item for the financial institutional that the credit card is open with.

Since the credit card can be used at any merchant I'm not sure if condensing the credit card with my login for the retailer would make sense for me. In that case I could link the items together to show that they're related (as you mentioned): Link related items in 1Password

But I can definitely see how having one item for both the credit card information and the login for that credit card's financial institutional would be useful.

I've filed a feature request on your behalf to have our Product team look into improving how we handle multiple items of this sort in the future. I appreciate you taking the time to write in with your feedback and use case.

We are pretty close in use case in that I too use the browser plugin 99% of the time. I like the desktop app when I'm "organizing", and this is where Categories become useful to me. Plus, if there's already a "tag" (category) for it, why create another tag :)

@1P_Dave thank you for your response! Yes, I completely agree. Not all CC's should be associated with an online merchant as they might just be a generic CC you would use anywhere. But being able to combine the CC (CC type) and CC Provider (Login type) would be cool, and remove one extra entry needed in this setup. For now I've done the same. I just use the Related Item feature to link them all together, so if I click the wrong one initially I can just quickly jump to the one I meant to go to.
