Question

Certain Passkeys only ask for Apple Passwords

I've saved my Passkey for Google in 1P, but when I go to Google to log in, I get a popup on Safari saying to go to the Apple Passwords app. I've disabled Passwords app in Safari settings (now the tab is entirely gone).

In System Settings, AutoFill and Passkeys, I've turned off Autofill. The only thing left is "Set up codes in" and there's a dropdown that ONLY includes the Passwords app.

1P is enabled in Safari. In 1P for Safari Settings --> General, the toggle is ON to make 1P the default password manager in this browser.

And yet, when I go to accounts.google.com, and it says it's going to use a passkey, I get a popup from Apple Passwords telling me to use it to manage my passkeys. My only options are Open "autofill & passwords", or other sign in options. That option makes me use my phone to scan a QR code. At this point this is WAY harder than not using a passkey.

Any idea how I get Apple Passwords to get out of my way so I can use 1P to use my passkeys?

Hello @nosillacast! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when trying to use a passkey to sign in to your Google account. As a start, please update 1Password for Safari to version 8.10.52:

Then, I'd like you to check the following settings in Safari:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click on Safari next to the Apple logo  in the menu bar then click Settings.
  3. Click Autofill.
  4. Turn off all four options.

Then in 1Password for Safari:

  1. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your Safari's toolbar and click Settings.
  2. Click Autofill & save.
  3. Make sure that "Offer to save and sign in with passkeys" is turned on.

Let me know if you still see the issue after following these steps.

Thanks,, @1P_Dave - I updated 1Password to 8.10.52 and unchecked all four autofill options (even though I like to be able to autofill from my contacts.) No change in behavior. I made a little video to demonstrate:

@nosillacast

Thank you for the screen recording, that's very helpful. It looks like 1Password is falling back to the system prompt, likely due to an error. So that I can investigate this further, I'd like to ask you to reproduce the issue one more time and then create a diagnostics report from 1Password in your browser:

Hi @1P_Dave , I'm having the same issue. I have a Mac mini with macOS and am unable to use anything other than Apple Passwords as my password manager. There is no other option in Settings / Autofill & Passwords / 'Setup codes in'. I have 1Password for Mac 8.10.60. Thank you.
