Collections Query

I use a number of Collections to bring different vaults together.

I have a default Collection for autofill on my Mac (1Password keeps defaulting back to my ‘master collection’ but that is a known bug which seems unfixable).

It seems that if I reach into a different Collection to retrieve login and password details 1Password then prompts me to save the login again despite already having the details within.

I can only reason that 1Password is not checking ‘everywhere’ to see if the site I have just logged into is not already in the database somewhere before asking me to save it again.

Is my reasoning accurate? Is there anything I can do to improve the situation?  What search criteria is 1Password using before deciding whether I need to add the login and password details again?

Thank you for the question about collections! Can you tell me a little more about what you see here:

How are you going into the other collection? Are you filling your login into Safari and choosing another collection in the AutoFill pop-up? Or are you using a different browser?

And are you able to post a screenshot of the prompt that you see?

I think I have worked out where my confusion is coming from.

Firstly, 1Password on my Mac is still forgetting my chosen Collection and reverting back to every Vault and I keep forgetting 1Password is doing this. I think I am in my personal Collection, a subset of Vaults, whereas I’m not.

My frustration with the request to save the login again seems to be coming from websites using different quite complicated website urls depending on the OS and browser. The person I am sharing a Vault with is using Chrome on Windows 10 whereas I am using Safari on macOS.

The URL saved in 1Password might be correct for Chrome on Windows 10 but does not match the same login page on Safari on macOS so 1Password is not offering the login details and then asks to save the login.

1Password is seeing the same login page as a quite different login page so I can understand why 1Password is behaving this way - I am not sure if there is a valid work around other than saving both URL’s but I am not sure this is practical.
