Computer Crashed with 7

Question

One of my macbooks died with 1P 7. I still have it on my iphone. I wanted to download 7 to my new macbook and then eventually upgrade that to 8. Is this possible? Also which is cheaper a couple having a plan each or the family plan which does not seem to have a 3 year intro discount?
