Does a Passkey replace my username/password login entirely?

This depends on each website's specific implementation of passkeys. We're still in early days for passkey adoption, most websites allow you to add a passkey as an additional login method but still allow you to use your username/password if needed. Some websites will allow you to remove the username/password entirely.

Part of the reason why many services leave passwords as a fallback option is because, for their website and apps, passkeys may not be supported across all devices and platforms yet.

Continue to follow best practices and make sure that all of your passwords are strong and unique: Use the password generator to change and strengthen your passwords

same goes for 1password would my email and password login credentials be deleted from the 1p vault?

No. 1Password will never automatically remove information from your vault since we want to leave that decision to you. Your old username and password is protected using the same security and end-to-end encryption as all of your other items.

If a website allows you to remove your old password as a login method from their end, then you can edit the item and remove the old password from 1Password as well.

And another question if I was to move away from 1password (hopefully not), how would I move across passkeys to another password manager?

At this stage, you cannot import or export passkeys. We’re working closely with platform vendors and other password managers through the FIDO Alliance to create a secure way to import and export passkeys. We believe it’s your choice where to store and use your passkeys. Hopefully we’ll have more to share soon. Within 1Password, you can use item sharing to move a passkey to a new 1Password account.

You can also create a new passkey for a website any time within 1Password and remove any existing passkeys from other providers.
