Does the connection between the desktop app and the browser extension still work?

I am having trouble connecting the 1Password desktop application with the browser extension on Ubuntu 23.04. I have been having this problem for many months now even with completely fresh Ubuntu+1Password+Firefox installations. I am starting to think that it's broken, and not just on my devices. I would be happy to be proven wrong though.
First of all, I am not using any kind of snap/Flatpak etc., so both Firefox and 1Password are not sandboxed/containerized. They both have full access to the system.

The Connect with 1Password in the browser (desktop) and Integrate with 1Password app (browser) options are enabled. In the extension settings, it says Problems connecting. Please ensure the 1Password app is unlocked. (it is unlocked).
As I said, this problem was not introduced with a recent version, it has been like this for months on all my Ubuntu systems. It used to work.
Does someone else have the same problem? Is there a solution for it? Thanks.
