Question

Don't "push enter" after autofilling userid and password

I’m logging into a website from the State of Vermont but am not an employee. After filling in my userid and password, I have to pick the “Log in with email and password” button rather than the state employee button. But if I let 1Password autofill, it automatically submits and acts as if it pushed the state employee button. How can I make 1Password autofill but stop short of submitting, so can click the correct button?

Hello @geber55! 👋

Thanks for the question! You can definitely turn off auto-submit for individual logins, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser’s toolbar.
  2. Find and select the item in question.
  3. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the item.
  4. Click Don’t sign in automatically.

I hope that helps!

That didn’t help much. When I follow 1P_Dave’s instructions I have to copy and paste the same way as if there was no URL at all in the 1Password entry.

@geber55

That doesn’t sound right. Turning off “Don’t sign in automatically” just turns off auto-submit so that 1Password fills your credentials but doesn’t actually press any buttons on the page.

Can you share the address of the website in question so that I can take a look?

In case it matters, the exact text displayed on the buttons are “Log In | Username & Password” and “Log in |  @Vermont.gov Emails”. And yes, the word “In” is capitalized in the first button but lowercase in the second.

That’s substantially what I did, although I had already chosen the entry in 1Password browser extension before I tried to log in. The operating system is Windows 11 Pro, the browser was Firefox 156.0.1.  The 1Password browser extension was  8.12.32.33.  The version for the PC program is  8.12.36.

Hi @geber55, thanks for your reply!

I’ve done some testing in Firefox and I’ve not been able to reproduce this. For me, after disabling “Don’t sign in automatically” for the login, and refreshing the page, I’m able to fill it normally from the inline menu beneath the fields, and then manually click the Log In button.

To confirm, if you set it back to “Sign in automatically”, does it then return to the behaviour where the login fills successfully but then selects the wrong button?

I got it to work, but not quite the way I expected. Here is my procedure:

  1. Browse to the login screen.
  2. Open the browser extension.
  3. In the extension, search for and select the password item.
  4. In the upper right of the extension window, click on the Autofill button (light blue text with light blue rounded rectangular outline).
  5. The fields are filled in but the login request is not submitted, just what I wanted.

What I was expecting was that when I clicked the Username box, 1Password would pop up a little rectangle and when I clicked the rectangle, the fields would be filled in but not submitted. I wasn’t expecting to have to open the extension and search. But at least I don’t have to copy and paste the userid and password manually.
