eBay offers no passkey option

I'm sorry that you're not seeing an option to add your passkey on eBay's website. Can you try signing into eBay using an Incognito window or another browser to see if you'll see the option there?

If you still don't see the option then I recommend reaching out to eBay's support team so that they can see why you're not seeing the passkey option for your account. In order to save a passkey in 1Password, the website will need to offer it as an option first.

Signed in using a Google Chrome Incognito and Firefox Private window on my desktop with identical results.
Signed in using a Google Chrome Incognito on my Google Android mobile device and the first option on the Sign in and security page was

Passkeys

Sign in across devices with your face, fingerprint, or PIN using a passkey stored in your password manager.

Since I was already speaking to eBay customer service due to them blocking my account as a result of this testing, I asked the representative if they knew about this situation concerning passkeys. They did not.

Trying again was unproductive.

Testing with Firefox Focus on Google Android resulted in a another telephone call to customer support to Verify it's you. Once unblocked again, the Sign in and security page makes no mention of passkeys.

I speculate that eBay is filtering based on user agent to offer passkeys only to folks who are using the ones which Google forces on Android accounts when they are using the browser which Google forces on Android devices which have not been configured to use the owner's preferred tools and choices. Of course you can try to remove those passkeys.

The second representative also did not know anything about this situation concerning passkeys.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you're seeing the "Turn on" option next to a "Passkeys" or "Face/fingerprint/PIN sign in" section on the eBay website on some of your devices but not others?

Can you clarify on which browsers/devices you're seeing the passkey "Turn on" option with eBay's website?

@1P_Dave Of those I tried, only Chrome on Android offered the Passkeys option.

If you're using the latest version of Android 14 you might be able to use 1Password to save a passkey there: Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your Android device

Note: If you encounter an "Unable to create passkey" error message on your Android device then this is an issue that our development team is currently investigating.

Regarding the desktop browser, I would recommend continuing to work with eBay support to see why the option to enable passkey sign in isn't appearing there.

@1P_Dave My device is a Google Pixel 7 running up-to-date 14 on which 1Password is my exclusive autofill, password and passkey provider.

Do you have a public link to the "Unable to create passkey" issue which you reference?

I've not started to work with eBay support on this and despite a strong inclination and long history of trying to help organisations to improve their technology and communications, I am reticent to engage their support staff on a substantial bug report as an individual user. Based on the quality of posts and responses, I am even less inclined to try to have this addressed by their Community.
If and when I see a significant effort to get eBay and PayPal to improve their authentication processes, then I'll be happy to contribute to it.

Any progress toward a fix yet? Our users continue to report this as an issue and I was still able to reproduce it even using the latest 1Password beta.

eBays passkey option is not one that allows save into a different password manager I think other than Google Password manager and Apple's version. I could never get eBay to save it into 1Password, but worked with the others meaning Apple and Google password managers. I think eBay implemented their passkey very early and in a weird way. A big shame too is eBay only allows one passkey to be created, and cannot have multiple.
