Erasing devices before recycling

I've hit one of those expensive periods where multiple devices need to be replaced, which also means multiple devices need to be recycled or resold. When you're in that position, how far do you take wiping the old data off before you send off your device? Do you:

Drill and microwave the devices like in Mr. Robot?
Just do a factory reset of the device and call it a day?
Somewhere in-between?

Hello, friend.

Since all good modern mobile device storage is encrypted, a factory reset should be more than sufficient to enable the next owner to enjoy the device without risk of divulging any secrets.
After a lifetime of service, any kind of removable storage should be physically destroyed before its next round of Samsara via the e-waste handler.

If your shenanigans are similar to Eliot's, then smashing and microwaving DIMMs is appropriate, but your IT E-coin budget should include microwaves and fire extinguishers.
