Extension on Mac stealing focus from browser, making it impossible to use Firefox or Chrome

When you click the browser to do anything, the extension is "stealing" the focus of the browser, trying to open the 1Password app. This makes using the browser impossible. Only solution is to close all 1Password processes via the Activity Manager and completely uninstall the browser extension.

Firefox, MacOS, 1Password and the extension are all up to date on the latest version. I've tried reinstalling the extension a number of times.

1Password Version: 8.10.39
Extension Version: Latest version (I can't check as I've had to uninstall)
OS Version: 14.6.1
Browser: 129

I'm still having this problem with 8.10.40. Is there a resolution coming? Thanks!

I'm sorry that you're also seeing the same issue. Just to confirm, is this on a Mac as well? If it is then our developers are still working on a fix. Can you try the following steps to workaround the issue:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
  2. Make sure that you are signed into the app: How to add another 1Password account to the apps and browser extension
  3. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Click Browser.
  6. Toggle the "Connect with 1Password in the browser" setting.

If this doesn't work, or you're not using a Mac, then let me know.

@1P_Dave I'm on a Mac, yes. The Browser settings page in 1Password guides me to this page: https://support.1password.com/cs/cannot-connect-browser/ When I follow those directions the path to the helper matches the expected path: /Applications/1Password.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/1Password Browser Helper.app (0x71c4)

Thanks!

@popthestack

Thank you for the reply. To clarify, did you try to toggle the "Connect with 1Password in the browser" option off and then back on?

And do you see the "We weren't able to connect to the 1Password extension in your browser" error message in 1Password for Mac?

@1P_Dave When I first tried to use that checkbox it was greyed out. I've since upgraded to the last version of 1Password and was able to uncheck and check that box again and it appears to have been resolved! Thank you!

@popthestack

I'm happy that everything is working again. 🙂
