Failed to copy field: iPhone & iPad in safari extensions

When using 1password extensions within Safari on iPhone and iPad with latest updates (ios and 1password), one can’t copy any fields. It shows ‘failed to copy field’. It worked in the past and now it doesn’t, all extensions are enabled in the settings > safari > extensions. Also weird is when opening 1password settings within the safari extensions, it show a new tab with limited settings. But when clicking on ‘open 1 password’ within security it opens an empty tab.

Is this a known bug?

Hello @narindo! 👋

It sounds like you're running into a few known issues with 1Password for Safari on iOS. The following steps might help to temporarily resolve the issue and allow you to copy and paste from the extension:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Safari.
  3. Tap Extensions.
  4. Tap 1Password.
  5. Tap Other Websites.
  6. Tap/select Ask.
  7. Switch back to Safari (the app).
  8. Tap the aA / puzzle piece icon.
  9. Tap 1Password.
  10. Tap Allow.

However, if that doesn't work the best workaround is to copy and paste from the main 1Password app on your home screen.

Also weird is when opening 1password settings within the safari extensions, it show a new tab with limited settings. But when clicking on ‘open 1 password’ within security it opens an empty tab.

Is this only happening on your iPad or is it happening on your iPhone as well? If it's only happening with the iPad then do you have an external keyboard attached? Are you able to open the settings screen if you disconnect the external keyboard?

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the solution, it works now to copy. It boggles me why it happened, but it works!

With regards to the settings in 1password extensions, it does the same on iPhone and iPad. After the above mentioned change, now it does ask whether I wish to open the 1password app, but immediately goes to this

Bit weird. It also happens with iPad Magic Keyboard and without. Also on iPhone.

Any ideas?

@narindo

Thank you for posting the screenshot. Can you tell me what version of 1Password 8 is installed on your device? You can find the version using this guide: Find the version numbers for 1Password and your operating system

Is it possible that you also have 1Password 7 still installed on your devices? What happens when you paste the following into Safari and try to open it: onepassword8://settings

Hm.. for some reason the link to open 1Password via the extension works again. I am not sure if it was related to above mentioned solution or something else happened. I also did not have v7 installed, so that wasn’t the reason.

Anyways, all works again, thanks for the help!

Hi @narindo - I'm happy to hear that things are now working as expected. It is possible that the workaround steps for the other issue have helped here too. Let us know if anything changes and we'll be here to help.
