Feature Request: Don't Remember Last Search

For my workflow, I always get frustrated when I return to 1Password and find that my previous search is there. I usually want to start a new search when I activate 1Password. Is there a way to turn off this behavior?

Hello @samdale67! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. When you return to the search field using Command-F, the previous search term should be highlighted. If you start typing your new search term the previous highlighted search term will disappear, giving you the same behaviour as if it has been pre-cleared.

That being said, we do have an open issue where sometimes that might not happen and our developers are investigating. To clarify: are you returning to the search field using Command-F or some other method?

@1P_Dave Is there any update on the issue with the previous search terms not being selected when returning to the search bar with Command-F?

I'm running into this everyday and it is driving me nuts!

As far as I can see, after doing a search then going to another window, then returning to 1Password and using Command-F, it does not highlight the previous search. Cursor is placed after the last word in the previous search.

@samdale67

Thank you for the additional information. Our development team has a work item open to get this fixed and I've added your report there. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

@1P_Dave Are you able to share any timeline for this to be resolved? You mentioned an open issue was identified seven months ago and have dutifully "passed along feedback" consistently but it's particularly frustrating that seemingly straightforward and annoying usability bugs aren't addressed in a more timely manner. I understand software prioritization isn't easy but I have to say as a very long time user, this is driving me to reconsider 1Password.

@reub

Thanks for the ping. The issue brought up by the original poster, where there's inconsistent behaviour when using Command+F to return to the search field, is still open in our developer's backlog and I don't have any updates to share at the moment.

The specific feedback that you've provided here has been filed as a feature request with our product team for consideration for future versions of 1Password. Our product team will consider improvements that can be made to search in the future with your feedback in mind. 🙂

Thanks for the update. This continues to bug me, at least once a day. 😅

I wonder if there has been any movement on this search UI issue? It continues to bother me at least once a day.  😅

As far as I can tell, this and other issues warrant a concerned and understanding reply from 1Password Dave, a vague comment that they're working on it and a forever trip to the memory hole. 1Password needs a real wake up on fixing issues that cause their customers pain and need to get on it. I'm about done and looking for alternatives after years of enjoying the software. Enough already.
