Feature Request - Secure Sent

As a 1Password user, I'd like to securely send anything, from an Excel file to a simple text note, so I can protect the information I'm sending end to end like I do with my personal Bitwarden account.

Context

Bitwarden's "Send" feature and 1Password's item sharing are distinct services for secure data transmission, not directly related versions. Bitwarden Send allows users to securely share sensitive information (text, files) using a time-limited link. 1Password's item-sharing feature enables sharing individual password items or entire vaults with others, offering customizable access permissions and expirations.

Bitwarden Send:

- Purpose: Securely share sensitive information (text, files) without requiring the recipient to have a Bitwarden account.

- How it works: It creates a secure link with a customizable lifespan and optional password protection.

- Key features: End-to-end encryption, time-limited access, and password protection.

1Password Item Sharing:

- Purpose: Share individual password items or entire vaults with other 1Password users or non-users.

- How it works: It generates a shareable link to an item or vault with configurable access permissions (read, read/write, etc.) and expiration.

- Key features include customizable access levels, expiration times, and hiding email addresses.

In essence:

Bitwarden Send is a general-purpose secure sharing tool, while 1Password's item sharing focuses on sharing specific password-related information within the 1Password ecosystem.

Both services offer secure data transmission and control over access, but they cater to different use cases.

Hello @danielsf! 👋

Welcome to the community! Can you clarify your feedback/request a little further? You can share more than just passwords with 1Password's secure item sharing, you can also share other types of items as well as items with attached files like Excel files. You can read more here:

Hello,

Conceptually the items sharing very different and does not cover the requested functionality. The main difference:

  1. In Bitwarden you can create a temporary item that will removed after certain amount of time vs 1Password you need to keep track of item to remove it that inconvenient and adds additional work
  2. I don’t need to share wide range of item types for temporary items, text and file totally enough
  3. I cannot set number attempts higher than 1, because in some cases I would like to protect from misclicks and provide at least 2 attempts
  4. I cannot share an item inside the browser extension, it enforce me to open a desktop app that very inconvenient

Basically:

Bitwarden Send helps to share some information that I don’t need to keep with external users. Providing such functionality to 1Password will provide a high benefits for existent users and interests for new one.

Any questions, just let me know.

Hi @userX42, thanks for sharing these details about the differences.

Just to confirm my understanding and make sure that I’m filing the most accurate feature request for you - you’d like the ability to share text and files using a temporary item that will automatically be deleted afterwards. You’d also like to be able to choose a slightly higher number of views than 1 in case of errors, and it would also be helpful if you could share from the browser extension instead of being redirected to the desktop app or web interface. Is that correct?

Hi @1P_Gem ,

> you’d like the ability to share text and files using a temporary item that will automatically be deleted afterwards

Yes. Small correction maybe: text OR file (could be just single file for the start)

> You’d also like to be able to choose a slightly higher number of views than 1 in case of errors

Yes

> it would also be helpful if you could share from the browser extension instead of being redirected to the desktop app or web interface

Yes

All correct.

It’s one of requirements for our business to exchange the information. This will bring a lot of improvements across multiple departments.
