[Feature Request] Synced Status Indicator

Hey 👋

I realize 1Password is extremely fast in syncing changes to the servers, but I'm always a bit uneasy because there's no indicator if changes are correctly synced. I would appreciate a tiny icon or status text in the 1Password 8 app that shows the sync status :)

Thank you.

Hi there @ianto

If 1Password on your Mac can't reach 1Password.com to sync, or it encounters any other syncing problem (such as with the item itself), it'll show a red cloud with a diagonal line through it, next to the Help balloon in the top-right corner of the window. It'll also show a banner along the bottom of the window, similar to the one that asks you to Restart Now when an update is available.

With that being the case, 1Password works on the "no news is good news" principle. It'll tell you if something fails so that you can look into it, just like with other apps like an email client or a calendar app, among others.

If you're ever unsure, you can lock 1Password and unlock it again. This will manually perform a sync with 1Password.com. However, you should only ever need to do this if you actually run into trouble syncing. :)

Hey @GreyM1P — thank you for this insight!

This seems like reasonable behavior. It's just that over the years (and also during 1PW 8's tenure) I sometimes have had issues with additions not syncing, and then it would be easier to check somewhere for a "Time last synced" timestamp than locking/unlocking. I don't remember ever seeing a red cloud symbol, was this added recently? It seems with the offline items showing, you are on a path to show more syncing troubles if they appear, so I'm hopeful that this behavior has changed and I just remember old behavior that wasn't as ideal.

@ianto

The offline indicator that Grey mentioned was added to 1Password for Mac with version 8.10.8, released on June 27th, 2023. Do you recall if you've seen any sync issue, without also seeing the offline indicator, since that time?

Our developers are continually improving how 1Password alerts users to offline items, if you do notice any issues while running the latest version then please do let us know and we would be happy to investigate further. 🙂

@1P_Dave I think it was a while ago, so since that update was quite recent, I will rest assured that I would now know if something's awry. Thank you for the update :)
