Feedback: Filtering search in 1Password 8

Came here to say as someone who has held onto 1Password 7 and finally took the plunge. This single design change is the reason I am considering leaving and telling the 8 families and 10 businesses I gotten on 1Password to abandon ship. Search with filter like 1Password 7 across all vaults is imperative. Search right now feels like a Siri inquiry. Like why isn’t this a bigger issue for AgileBits!?

Thank you for the feedback! I’ve split your post into a new thread since the old thread hasn’t been active in four years and a lot has changed since then.

There’s a few different ways to limit your search to certain vaults:

You can use a collection: Use collections to create custom groups of vaults
You can use the Find tool by selecting a vault in the sidebar and then clicking the magnifying glass at the top of the item list:

Let me know if one of those options would work for your use case. If it doesn’t then I’d love to hear what specific functionality you’re missing so that I can pass it along to the team.

The find is just another layer of abstraction. 1Password 7 client had more accurate search and filtering of the main window similar to Find. The search in 1Password 8 client constantly doesn’t result in the same quality of result and doesn’t show a filtered list like find at a global level. Like the older thread that has been abandoned said, this is a major problem. It add work to users looking for things, and add more steps to drill down. What you had as a UI feature worked great. I can’t think for the life of me how this isn’t a bigger concern for 1Password when they wrote version 8 from the ground up. Feels like a programmer just used search based on existing APIs in the dev package and didn’t want to do the major work of what the 1Password devs did to makes search usable.

Again the search feature in 1Password 8 is BAAAAAAAD. Like really bad at results, which is a separate issue like the original thread brought up about no filtering searches globally in the list of entries.

I can’t believe with all the search optimization posts on the blog, and time since 4 years ago this is still an issue. I stayed away from 1Password 8 specifically to give it a fair chance to mature and get parity with 1Password 7 features and design use case-wise. This is beyond disappointing the Dev team can’t see how bad this is. This isn’t about taste. It is about standards.
