Question

Force sync on desktop app?

A recently added login is on my iOS app and browser extension and 1password.com site, but was not showing up in the desktop app. I did a 'quit 1password completely' and restarted it, and the item synced across.

Is there a way to manually sync without quitting and logging back in?

Is there a way to ensure that the desktop app always stays in sync?

Hi @donblanco

As it stands, doing any of the following with the app will "force" a sync, if one is possible: locking and unlocking, adding a new item, or editing an existing item. For the future we are looking at ways to make it more obvious when the app's connection to the server has been interrupted, and offering guidance on how to resolve that based on the cause.

I hope that helps!

I wished it help, but no, that stuff is not forcing the mac desktop app to sync. I'm really hating the fact that I probably have to reboot to get this to happen, since I'm in the middle of an online account setup and have a lot more stuff to do there.

I can't believe there's not just a FORCE SYNC button somewhere in the application settings. How hard would that be?

@BoctorBill

I'm glad that restarting your device resolved the issue and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

But there really should be a way to force the sync or at least see in the settings why the app is failing to sync.

Locking and unlocking the app should force the desktop app to immediately check for new updates. If that didn't work then our team would need to investigate further to see what might have gone wrong. The diagnostics report has detailed information that can help to troubleshoot the issue. If you see the same issue occur again then send in a diagnostics report and the team can help further. 🙂
