Generated secure password should include a number

In many cases the requirements for a new password includes the necessity to contain at least one numbers. On the other hand, the secure password generator of 1Password uses a combination of "readable" words separated by, say, a dash. The words include at least one capital letter (which is another often used requirement for passwords) but never a number.

This means, in practice, that I have to modify the generated password manually once it is accepted. Which is not a big deal, but annoying nevertheless...

Thank you for posting the screenshot and I'm sorry for the confusion. My screenshot was from 1Password in the browser, while it looks like you're using the desktop app. You can find the option to add numbers as separators to a memorable password in the desktop app here:

I hope that helps. 🙂

Hello @hermani! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! If you're generating passwords for a website then I recommend trying the Smart Password generator, it can detect the password requirements on a website and generate a secure password that meets those requirements, including by adding numbers to the password. You can read more here: A smart(er) password generator | 1Password

You can set smart passwords to be the default in the browser by following these steps:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Click on the 1Password icon in the toolbar, then click on the menu button (it looks like three lines in a circle).
  3. Click Password Generator.
  4. Set Type to Smart Password.
  5. Turn on "Use as default for suggestions".

Moving forward, 1Password will suggest smart passwords right on the page that will match the website's requirements:

If you're using the 1Password app then you can set the password type to random and toggle numbers on. Or, if you're generating memorable passwords, you can add numbers as the seperator between words.

I hope that helps.

Thank you, it helps, but... I usually prefer the "memorable password" option. It may be illogical from me because, in fact, it almost never happens that I have to copy a password manually but, nevertheless, I prefer that. And in that option numbers are never used. In my view, it should and it would not change the "memorable" aspect of the passwords.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. You can add numbers to memorable password by changing the following setting:

If you'd like this to be the default type of password that 1Password suggests in the browser then make sure to check "Use as default for suggestions" as well.

Dave,

that it strange. This is indeed the option I was looking for, but I do not have it on my machine. I run 1Password for Mac 8.10.64, 81064007, on PRODUCTION channel, freshly updated. This is what I see when I generate a new password:

which looks different from yours.

Where do I get this wrong?

Thanks
