Help! Safari won't use my 1P passkey

I've successfully generated a passkey to use for 2FA on MaxMind.com (instead of getting emailed a code which I find annoying). In chrome, the 1P extension recognizes the Passkey flow and pops up, but when using Safari, I get what appears to be a system dialog

If I have my phone, scanning the QR code does properly work – however I'd like the Safari extension to handle this. Is there a config I need to set to get this to work? Thanks!
