How to apply suggested password?

Context
I need to update old passwords frequently because I access to thousands of sites and systems.

Behavior and expected behavior
I am unable to apply the new suggested password.
1. Clicking the popover-button with mouse doesn't inject it into the focussed field
2. Using the keyboard: enter or return keys don't apply it either.

What am I missing?
