How to export data? Am I doing this correctly? Vaults seem to be co-mingled?

When you choose the File menu > Export, 1Password will export the contents of the entire 1Password account that you select, so in this case, I would expect that both exports will be of both vaults each time.

If you want to export only one vault, you can mark the other one as "not safe for travel" and turn on Travel Mode to temporarily hide it in the 1Password app.

Then, when you export, only the vault that's available will be exported.

After you've exported the vault you want, you can turn Travel Mode off to show both vaults again.

I notice that when I did attempt to export both vaults, they don't look the same, in that one export starts with one login account and the other with another one. I mean it isn't easy to see that they are the same, is there a way to tell at first glance?

Yep! You're exporting the data from your (entire) account, not just one of the vaults within it.

This means you only have to export from your account once, rather than once per vault.

Not particularly, no. Broadly speaking, we wouldn't normally expect customers to need to inspect the export file, since whatever's importing it will process it, but you'll probably find they both have the same number of rows (if you chose to export a CSV file), or approximately the same file size (if you chose to export a 1PUX file).

No, you have 2 vaults within your 1Password account.

You can have as many as you want, and for whatever purposes you want, but the more you have, the more complex it can become. Most customers probably only really need one – maybe two if they want to have work-related items separately – but when you start having multiple vaults, it can start getting more difficult to know what's where and why.

To be honest, unless you can think of a good reason to keep your items in separate vaults, there's probably no need. You can use things like favorites and tags to help you find things in 1Password.

And, what are containers?

We don't use the word "containers" to describe anything in 1Password. Instead, we use terminology like:

• Item: Each specific entry you have in 1Password. These can be Logins, Credit Cards, Identities, and so on: 1Password item categories.
• Vault: Each vault contains items. You can't put one vault inside another. You can have as many as you like.
• 1Password account: Contains your vaults, which in turn contain items.

As a rough analogy, you might think of these parallels:

• Item: similar to a file, like a document, image, movie, and so on.
• Vault: similar to a folder. Each folder contains files.
• 1Password account: similar to a disk. The disk contains folders, which in turn contain files.
